An Afternoon at an Authentic Buddhist Retreat - Experience Tibet at Tiona If you are looking for some peace in a busy world, then come along to an afternoon with a difference at Sundowner Tiona Tourist Park on Sunday 15th January from 2.30pm to 5.30pm as Rigpa Australia's annual retreat will be open to the public. All are welcome! There are lots of free activities including Tibetan cultural singing and dancing by the Tibetan community. Learn about meditation, take a guided tour of a Tibetan Buddhist Shrine or simply browse our bookshop.Families are very welcome and can participate in meditative arts sessions. Tibetan food will also be available Since 1998, Rigpa has transformed several acres of Tiona Park into an authentic Tibetan Buddhist retreat centre every January. Traditional Buddhist shrines are carefully created in large white lake-side tents, which are joined together by brightly coloured Tibetan prayer flags. This is the first opportunity local residents have had to visit for an afternoon to experience the atmosphere of the retreat. Over 500 adults and children attend the 10-day retreat each year, led by world-renowned Tibetan Buddhist teacher Sogyal Rinpoche, the author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. Visitors at the open afternoon on 15 January will be able to watch some specially selected recordings of recent teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche and attend guided meditations by experienced instructors. Attendance at daily teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche are restricted to those attending the entire 10 day retreat from 12-22 January.
